Optician website design Two businesses, one address, one website

An optical practice is a clinic and a shop at the same time. The eye examination is regulated and clinical; the frames are retail with margins and seasons. Most optician websites let one of the two swallow the other.

The balancing act

Lead with the eye test, pay the bills with the frames

The examination is what people search for and what brings them through the door. A site that opens with frames looks like a shop and loses the clinical searches.

  • Eye examinations first With entitlement explained before anyone reaches a price.
  • CORU named in full Optometrists and dispensing opticians register with CORU. The full name reassures patients who do not know the acronym.
  • PRSI treatment benefit Who qualifies, explained plainly rather than left to be asked at the desk.
  • Medical card cover What it covers and what it does not, before someone books expecting the wrong thing.
  • What to bring To the appointment, so nobody arrives without the right paperwork.
  • What the test costs If none of the above applies. Handled on the page, it becomes a booking rather than a long call.
The retail half

What the frames and lenses side of the site needs to do

Once the clinical trust is established, the site has a second job: help someone choose frames and lenses without walking in blind, or walk in already leaning towards a pair.

  • Brands named and kept current People search the brand and the town together. A stale brand list is worse than none.
  • Lens options and pricing Single vision, varifocal, coatings. Confusing to explain in person, worth explaining once on a page.
  • Children's eye care Parents research this more carefully than their own prescription, and search for it separately.
  • Contact lens aftercare Treated as an ongoing relationship rather than a one-off sale, which is closer to how it actually works.
  • Dry eye and specialist clinics A general eye care page never surfaces this. It needs its own page to be found at all.
  • Booking an eye test online The one action that ties the clinical and retail sides together on the same visit.

Thinking about selling frames online too

Some practices want a browsable frame range online, separate from booking an eye test. That is closer to an online store than a clinic site, and worth planning as its own project.

Other clinical practices

Practices without the retail half

Yours is the only one of the four with a shop attached. The others trade purely on clinical trust, which changes what the site has to carry.

  • All Healthcare Websites Every clinic type we build for, in one place. See the hub
  • Dental Clinic Websites Built around comparison, since dental is the most price-shopped clinic there is. Dental websites
  • Physio and Rehab Websites Built around the symptom someone is searching, not the modality. Physio websites
  • Multi-Practitioner Clinic Websites Built around routing patients to the right discipline first. Multi-practitioner websites
