Project Description
Gadget Geek is an Irish online electronics and accessories retailer selling across a wide range of categories: headphones, earphones, Bluetooth speakers, smartwatches, gaming consoles, power banks, charging cables, drones, and retro audio equipment. The store stocks recognised brands including JBL, Hoco, Sony, Xiaomi, Baseus, Ksix, and ACEFAST, alongside a curated selection of unique tech finds not commonly available on the high street.
The business targets tech enthusiasts, gift buyers, gamers, and everyday consumers across Ireland who want quality gadgets at competitive prices without travelling to a physical store. When they came to us, the store was generating a handful of sales each month. The potential was clearly there. The website was not doing enough to convert the visitors it was receiving.
Project Summary
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Industry | Consumer Electronics and Gadget Retail |
| Location | Ireland |
| Platform | Shopify |
| Services Provided | Shopify Store Design, UX Restructure, SEO, CRO, Performance Optimisation, Stripe Payment Gateway Setup |
| Primary Goal | Increase sales volume and revenue through improved conversion rate and user experience |
| Secondary Goals | Improve page load speed, reduce bounce rate, increase average order value, grow mobile sales |
The Challenge
Gadget Geek had a product range that customers genuinely wanted, but the website was failing to close sales consistently. The store was averaging just 3 to 4 sales per month, which did not reflect the volume of visitors arriving on the site.
Several structural issues were holding growth back. The product catalogue was not segmented in a way that helped customers browse with intent. Category pages lacked clear hierarchy, making it harder for both visitors and search engines to understand the store's range. Mobile performance was poor, with a page load time of 3.2 seconds, which was causing significant drop-off before users reached a product page.
There was no consistent payment trust layer. Customers were arriving, browsing, and then leaving without converting, in part because the checkout experience did not signal security clearly enough. The store also lacked a long-tail keyword strategy, meaning it was invisible for the specific product searches that indicate genuine purchase intent.
Research and Strategic Planning
Before touching the site, we completed a thorough audit of the existing store structure, traffic patterns, competitor positioning, and keyword landscape. Three Irish and UK competitors with comparable product ranges were reviewed to understand how category architecture, navigation, and product presentation affected conversion rates.
Audience intent analysis confirmed that Gadget Geek's ideal buyer was not searching for broad terms like "electronics Ireland." They were searching for specific models, brands, and use cases: noise-cancelling headphones Ireland, retro handheld console, JBL speaker deals, smartwatch with call feature. This insight shaped the entire keyword and content strategy.
The conversion journey was mapped from entry point to checkout. The mapping identified three primary friction points: unclear navigation on mobile, no visible trust signals near the buy button, and a checkout process that did not immediately reassure customers about payment security. Each of these was addressed directly in the redesign of the website.
Website Structure and User Experience Strategy
The store's navigation was rebuilt around product category intent rather than internal stock groupings. Collections were reorganised into clearly labelled sections, headphones, smartwatches, gaming, cables and charging, speakers, and unique finds, so customers could reach relevant products in fewer clicks.
The homepage was restructured to function as a commercial landing page as well as a catalogue entry point. Above the fold, the headline clearly communicated the store's value proposition. Selling Fast and New Arrivals sections were positioned to create urgency and encourage browsing without overwhelming first-time visitors. Product cards were updated to show sale prices, stock status, and key product attributes directly in the listing view, reducing the number of page loads required before a purchase decision.
Trust elements were placed consistently throughout the customer journey. Fast shipping, secure payment, and customer support information were surfaced on the homepage and reinforced at the product page level. Payment method logos and a secure checkout indicator were placed visibly in the cart and checkout flow.
Call-to-action placement was reviewed at every stage. Each product category page ended with a clear prompt to view the full collection. Individual product pages were structured to place the buy button within the visible area on all common mobile screen sizes without scrolling.
SEO Strategy and Implementation
The site's SEO optimisation had been largely untouched before we became involved. Product titles and meta descriptions were either missing or duplicated across categories. We carried out a full on-page optimisation pass, writing unique meta titles and descriptions for every product collection and priority product page.
Primary Keyword: buy gadgets online Ireland
Secondary Keywords: online electronics shop Ireland, tech accessories Ireland, JBL headphones Ireland, smartwatch Ireland, gaming console Ireland, Bluetooth speaker Ireland
LSI Keywords: noise-cancelling headphones Ireland, retro handheld console buy online, Hoco accessories Ireland, power bank Ireland, gadget gifts Ireland, fast shipping electronics Ireland, buy earphones online Ireland
Heading structure was corrected across all key pages to establish a logical H1, H2, H3 hierarchy. Internal linking between related collections was implemented to pass authority and support crawlability. A mobile-first approach was taken throughout. Core Web Vitals were addressed as part of performance optimisation rather than as a separate consideration. Structured product data was used to support rich results in search for key product categories.
Conversion Rate Optimisation
Our CRO work centred on reducing hesitation at every stage of the purchase journey, particularly for first-time visitors who had no prior relationship with the brand.
| Challenge | Strategy Implemented | Business Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Low mobile purchase rate | Mobile-first layout rebuild, thumb-friendly CTA placement, reduced content width on small screens | Mobile conversions increased by 55% |
| High bounce rate on product pages | Added product attributes in listing view, surface trust signals near buy button, improved image quality | Bounce rate reduced by 40% |
| Low average basket value | Related products, collection upsells, and complementary accessories shown at product page level | Average order value increased by 35% |
| Cart abandonment from payment uncertainty | Stripe payment gateway configured, visible payment logos, secure checkout indicators | Checkout completion rate improved significantly |
Technical Implementation
The store runs on Shopify, which was the right platform choice for a product-led retail business of this scale. Shopify provides a stable, hosted foundation that handles security, uptime, and PCI compliance natively, removing technical burdens that would otherwise require separate management.
One of the most impactful technical changes was the integration of Stripe as the primary payment gateway. Stripe provides a consistent, trusted checkout experience for Irish consumers and supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, and all major card types. Configuring Stripe correctly, with proper 3D Secure handling and clear payment error messaging, was a direct contributor to the improvement in checkout completion rates.
Performance was a priority from the outset. Page load time was reduced from 3.2 seconds to 1.1 seconds through image compression, lazy loading for off-screen media, removal of unused scripts, and Shopify theme code optimisation. This single improvement had a measurable impact on both SEO rankings and conversion rate, as visitors were less likely to leave before the page had fully loaded.
GDPR compliance was addressed with a properly configured cookie consent layer and updated privacy and refund policy pages. All customer data handling within Shopify's native framework was reviewed to ensure it met Irish and EU requirements.
Results and Business Impact
The results after the redesign and optimisation work were clear and measurable. The store moved from a position of near-dormancy to consistent weekly sales volume.
| Metric | Before | After | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly revenue growth | Baseline | 400% increase | +400% |
| Sales frequency | 3 to 4 per month | 3 to 4 per week | 4x increase |
| Page load time | 3.2 seconds | 1.1 seconds | 66% faster |
| Mobile conversion rate | Baseline | +55% | +55% |
| Average order value | Baseline | +35% | +35% |
| Bounce rate | Baseline | -40% | 40% reduction |
These improvements were not the result of any single change. They came from the combined effect of a properly structured store, faster page load times, clearer navigation, a trusted payment setup, and an SEO foundation that began to surface the store for high-intent product searches. Revenue growth of 400% reflects a store that was capable all along but needed the right technical and strategic foundation to perform.

Scalability and Future Growth
The store is now in a position to grow without requiring significant rework. The category architecture is structured to accommodate new product ranges without disrupting the existing navigation. Each new product added benefits immediately from the SEO infrastructure already in place, including proper meta title templates, schema markup, and internal linking patterns.
Shopify's native tooling supports email marketing integration, abandoned cart recovery, discount and loyalty programmes, and additional payment method expansion. The Stripe gateway setup enables Gadget Geek to offer buy-now-pay-later options in future without a platform change. Social commerce through TikTok Shop and Instagram Shopping can be connected directly to the existing product catalogue as the business scales its social presence.
The long-tail keyword strategy implemented during the SEO phase is already generating organic traffic for specific product searches. As the product range expands and more category content is developed, organic visibility will continue to grow without proportional increases in paid marketing spend.
