Painter and decorator website design Before and after, side by side, is the whole pitch

Decorating is the one trade where the customer can see exactly what they are buying. A pair of photographs taken from the same spot does more work than any paragraph about attention to detail.

The pair only works if the two photographs line up

Everyone puts before and after shots on a decorating website. Most are taken from different corners of the room on different days, and the eye notices in half a second.

  • Same spot, same lens And the same height, both times. That is what makes a photo believable instead of forgettable.
  • Consistent light Daylight if you can get it, and the same time of day if you cannot.
  • The whole wall shown Not a crop of the good bit. People notice when a photo has been chosen carefully.
  • One close shot Of a cut line or an edge, which is where the skill actually shows.
  • Two or three pairs per job Not twenty singles. A few great photos work better than dozens of average ones.
  • Resized without losing quality Photographs are the heaviest thing on a decorating website, so ours are optimised on upload.

What people are nervous about

How much furniture needs to move, how much dust there will be, how many days you will be in the house, and what happens if a colour looks different once it has dried. Answer these on the page and half the objections never reach the phone call.

The work mix

Three kinds of work that need three kinds of page

Exterior work follows the weather, interior work does not, and commercial work follows a budget cycle. Giving each its own page lets the site keep earning in the months the others go quiet.

  • Interior decorating Written for someone living in the house while you work.
  • Exterior painting and rendering Where weather windows and access decide the price.
  • Commercial and rental turnarounds Timing matters more here than the colour on the wall.
  • Spray finishing and specialist work Kitchens, doors, furniture and wallpapering, each its own search.
  • Paint brand and finish named Trade or retail, matt or eggshell. Naming it lets people compare like with like.
  • Colour consultation Whether picking a shade is included, or something they arrive with already decided.

The winter problem

Exterior enquiries fall away from October. An interior page ranking before the season turns, out-of-hours commercial work and spray finishing done indoors all keep the phone going, and next spring's bookings get taken over the winter from the same site.

The wider trade

More trade website design

Yours is the most visual trade of the four, which is an advantage as long as the site is built to carry photographs properly.

  • All Construction & Trade Websites Every trade we build for, in one place, if you are not sure this is the closest fit. See the hub
  • Carpenter Website Design Built around a photo gallery, since joinery is bought on sight. Carpenter websites
  • Electrician Website Design Built around urgency, since electrical work is either planned or needed in the next hour. Electrician websites
  • Roofing Website Design Built around reassurance, since a roof is bought once or twice in a lifetime. Roofing websites
